Individual Therapy

Individual therapy at KM MHC starts with your specific concerns, not a one-size-fits-all protocol. Using Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) as a foundation, Kyle integrates cognitive-behavioral (CBT), DBT-informed, and person-centered techniques. This approach is especially effective for complex attachment and identity-related disorders — including borderline, avoidant, antisocial, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders — as well as emotional regulation difficulties and interpersonal challenges. Kyle also supports clients navigating substance use, developmental concerns, adjustment to medical diagnoses, and recovery from sexual abuse and intimate partner violence. Sessions are direct, collaborative, and focused on building real understanding — not just managing symptoms.

What to Expect

Sessions typically begin with what's on your mind — not a checklist. Kyle works alongside you as an active, engaged partner in understanding your inner world. Together, you'll identify patterns in how you think about yourself and others, and develop new ways of handling difficult emotions and relationships.

Who This Is For

  • Adults experiencing personality disorders or traits — including borderline, avoidant, antisocial, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive presentations
  • Individuals struggling with emotional regulation or recurring interpersonal difficulties
  • Those navigating substance use, developmental concerns, or adjustment to a medical diagnosis
  • Survivors healing from sexual abuse or intimate partner violence
  • People seeking deeper self-understanding and personal growth

Our Approach

Mentalization-Based Treatment is an evidence-based psychotherapy that focuses on strengthening your ability to understand mental states — your own and those of the people around you. Kyle integrates CBT techniques for identifying and restructuring unhelpful thought patterns, DBT-informed skills for emotion regulation, and a person-centered foundation that honors your lived experience. Research has shown MBT to be particularly effective for borderline personality disorder, with outcomes that continue to improve even after treatment ends.
