I lead Mentalization-Based Treatment in psychotherapy through my practice, Kyle McEvoy Mental Health Counseling PC (KM MHC), serving the New York City metropolitan area. My work focuses on people facing complex attachment and identity-related disorders — including borderline, avoidant, antisocial, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders — along with the interpersonal difficulties that come with them. These are often the cases where standard approaches hit a wall.

At KM MHC, treatment is engaging, curious, honest, and active. In addition to direct patient care, I provide MBT supervision for children and soon-to-be adolescents, and I speak and write nationally on mental health services.

Strengthening the capacity to understand minds — our own and others' — is at the heart of every engagement.

I hold advanced training in Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) for Adults, Adolescents, and Children, along with Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment (AMBIT) for complex systems and multiple provider treatment teams — training I completed through the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families. My clinical work integrates cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT-informed approaches, ExRP-informed techniques, person-centered principles, and a feminist lens — all grounded in the mentalization model. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, with significant experience supporting sexual minorities and LGBTQIA+ youth.

Throughout my career I've worked with clients navigating substance use, psychological and developmental disorders, adjustment to medical diagnoses, and recovery from sexual abuse and intimate partner violence. My approach centers on understanding the whole person — honoring their desires, needs, and goals — while fostering lasting change through evidence-based treatment.

Over the past decade I've worked across residential treatment facilities, community-based programs, and private practice — as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, chief culture officer, and therapeutic mentor. That range informs how I approach clinical work today.
